Boston College to Honor Gaudreau Brothers and Tony Voce During the Season

Boston College will pay tribute to former hockey players Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau and Tony Voce throughout this season with special uniform patches, a commemorative sign on the boards in front of the team bench, and other heartfelt tributes.

All three players tragically passed away this summer. The Gaudreau brothers, Johnny and Matthew, were killed in a car accident while bicycling in New Jersey, just a day before their sister’s wedding. Tony Voce, a member of Boston College’s 2001 national championship team, passed away suddenly at the age of 43. The cause of his death has not been released.

Boston College has planned several tributes to honor the players:

A moment of silence will be held before the Eagles’ home opener against American International College on Friday.
A video tribute will also play during the ceremony.
The team will wear uniform patches featuring the initials “TV”, “JG”, and “MG”, with the same initials displayed on the boards at the Conte Forum.

On November 8, before the Hockey East opener against Maine, all Boston College players will wear jerseys honoring either Voce or one of the Gaudreau brothers during warmups. Additionally, the school’s trophy case has been redesigned to pay tribute to these players.

Johnny Gaudreau, the 2014 Hobey Baker Award winner as the best player in college hockey, was a key member of BC’s 2012 NCAA championship team and enjoyed an 11-year NHL career with Calgary and Columbus. His younger brother, Matthew, was a two-time Beanpot champion and led Boston College in points during his senior season.

Tony Voce was a First Team All-American and Hobey Baker Award finalist in 2004, known for his remarkable contributions to BC’s national championship run.
