Derrick Lewis (+300) Vs Ciryl Gane (-370)
UFC 265 takes place this Saturday evening at the Toyota Center in Houston, TX. And even though we lost the Co-main event with the female GOAT Amanda Nunes coming down with COVID, the Houston fans will not be bothered because their Hometown boy, the Black Beast Derrick Lewis, is looking to become the new UFC Interim Heavyweight Champion. If you are not familiar with Derrick Lewis I strongly recommend going to YouTube right now and watch his greatest KO’s, I’ll wait …… This guy has the capability to knock your head off Rockem Sockem Robot style at any moment and then get on the mic post fight, promote his after party, and tell the world his balls are hot.
The Toyota Center is going to be absolutely insane tomorrow night cheering on their guy. And all that is standing in the way comes in the form of an undefeated 6’4, 245 lb Ciryl Gane. He might not be able to match Lewis’ one punch knock out power but he can still throw his hands. Gane might not need his 100% take-down defense against Lewis this Saturday but his abilities with submissions could make this fight very interesting.
In the 2 years since the Frenchman has been in the UFC, Gane is 6-0 and has been in there with some very talented heavyweights. Some criticism about Gane is that he is not the most exciting Heavyweight in the division. When the crowd wants the see heavyweights (Like Lewis) deliver the big knockouts, Cyril Gane controls the fights and methodically picks people apart and doesn’t care if he wins by decision. He now has wins over Alexander Volkov, Rozenstruik and Junior Dos Santos in his last three fights and what makes that even more impressive is when you consider the fact this guy has only been fighting professionally 3 years. It’s incredible to think of all he has accomplished in such a small amount of time and tonight he is fighting for the championship.
And this is a classic case of the up and coming Phenom, the heavyweight submission artist, the heavy favorite and the Newcomer taking on the Veteran, the hometown guy, the underdog and the fan favorite who holds the record for most KO’s in the UFC. Derrick Lewis (25-7, 1 NC) has fought the current Heavyweight Champion Francis Ngannou and won. He fought his way up the rankings once already in his career and fought for the title against Daniel Cormier and lost. Then had to start all over again and prove he belongs at the top of this division and has been waiting for his second crack at the title. He feels he deserves to be fighting for the real Heavyweight Championship against Ngannou tonight and not for the interim against someone he believes should not be in the position he is in. Gane has all the talent in the world but I don’t know if the man they call “Bon Gamin” from France can come into Houston, a city that is going to be 100% behind Lewis and against Gane, can overcome all that and keep his head in the fight enough to avoid one of the Black Beast’s haymakers. All it takes is 1 shot and we have seen Derrick do it to more men than any human on this planet.
Prediction: I am taking the underdog veteran fighting in his Hometown in what could very well be his last shot at a title. Lewis by KO
PS. If this prediction comes true we are in for an all-time post fight speech. Sucks Rogan won’t be there for it.
PPS. If you have been following my other fights predictions the judges have screwed us lately. Hang in there. Under card picks coming soon
